ASK FOR IT

I got some wonderful goodies for Christmas.

I had asked for what I wanted and I got exactly what I asked for - all of it, and more.

A couple of months before Christmas, out of the blue, a ‘Sista’ came up to me and asked me for something. I was taken aback, but just briefly, because my very next thought was that she was so humble, quite brave, and absolutely right to ask for what she wanted.

I was not able to give her right away, but I was moved to get it for her and told her I would as soon as possible. For Christmas I got her what she asked for. She was beside herself!!! I was honoured to be used by God in this way. I was blessed.

As you seek to recharge and reset this weekend, there’s a lesson here for you my Sista.

Ask and you will receive. Yes, ASK.

We are told in James 4:2 that “you do not have because you do not ask”.

Here are three (3) tips for asking for what you need:

Believe

If you really believed that God could and would give you what you ask him for, wouldn’t you ask Him? And having asked Him, wouldn’t you expect a positive answer? In Mark 11:24 we are told, “whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”

Without faith it is impossible to please God, so believe what he says and anticipate His response.

Have the right motives for asking.

In James 4:3 we are told further that “even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure”.

In Matthew 7:9-11 we are asked: “Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!”

Be humble

Pride will kill some ah we!!!

Arrogance will kill de rest ah we!!! Either we feel “shame” that we should need to ask for help, so we vow that we “nah beg nobaddy fuh nutten!!!” Not even God!!! We simply rather do without until we can get it ourselves.

Then there are those of us who feel we can do it all on our own. We think we are capable, or should be, or we have the means, or should. When, therefore, we find ourselves in a spot, we would rather work ourselves to the bone and worry ourselves sick, before we would even think of asking for help. It’s so bad that even if someone offers us help we “proudly” refuse it.

Swallow your pride Sista!!!
