the Impossible dream

Most of you (maybe not my younger followers) would know the timeless song “To Dream the Impossible Dream’ sung by the renowned Andy Williams.  Here are the soul-rousing words of that song:

To dream the impossible dream

To fight the unbeatable foe

To bear with unbearable sorrow

To run where the brave dare not go

To right the unrightable wrong

To love pure and chaste from afar

To try when your arms are too weary

To reach the unreachable star

This is my quest,

To follow that star

No matter how hopeless,

No matter how far.

To fight for the right

Without question or pause,

To be willing to march

Into hell for a heavenly cause.

And I know if I'll only be true

To this glorious quest

That my heart will lie peaceful and calm

When I'm laid to my rest

And the world will be better for this

That one man, sore and covered with scars

Still strove with his last ounce of courage

To fight the unbeatable foe

To reach the unreachable star

It all starts with an impossible dream …..to reach an unreachable star.  It is the DREAM that gives the writer the motivation to fight the unbeatable, bear the unbearable, right the unrightable, to strive with his last ounce of courage, and ultimately leave the world better for his/her efforts.

The most impossible dream I have ever had so far, has been to go on a cruise.  As far as I knew, only VEEEERY RICH people go on cruises, so I did not even fathom that I could EVER be able to afford to go on a cruise.  The only exposure I had to cruises was in the movies and watching the television series ‘Fantasy Island’.  Exactly!  Fantasy!!!

Not just that.  I fear the high seas…..and the low.  After all, I cannot swim.  My only experience being on a ship was sailing from my home island of Trinidad to our sister Island Tobago, and that was a horrible experience because I was left giddy for two (2) whole days after the journey.

A cruise was therefore never even a remote desire, or part of my frame of reference, much less a dream.  When friends introduced my husband and me to the idea and my husband was very interested (who knew?), I decided to give it some thought.  I decided to dream BIG.

I have been learning to ‘dream’ and to create vision boards.  Going on a cruise vacation became a part of my vision.  I placed a cut out picture of a large cruise ship along with other pictures, on what was to be my vision board.  In my true perfectionist style, I was waiting until I found all the pictures I needed, so I did not even paste it on, nor did I get around to hanging it up.  It remained on our center table in the living room where I would see it every day.  I began to believe it was possible and to plan toward it.  I was therefore ready when an opportunity came our way.

Success Coach Terri Savelle-Foy says “Whatever gets in your mind and stays there, you will attract it in your life.

”VOILA!!!

These are NOT cut-outs!!!  These are actual photos of me on a cruise to Nassau, Bahamas which I went on with my husband and a group of friends with a very affordable package deal.

Ladies, we must give ourselves permission to dream BIG.  Terri Savelle-Foy says “you have to see it on the inside before you can see it on the outside”, and “if your dreams are possible, you’re not dreaming big enough.”

Abraham had never had any children and was 90 years old, and his wife Sarah 80 years old and barren, when God told him he would be the father of many nations.  Abraham was a man of faith.  He trusted in God and obeyed God, but God knew Abraham needed to have a VISION of his future offspring to encourage him and keep him trusting in what seemed impossible.

So in Genesis 15 God gave Abraham a vision and a vision Board.  It says that “....the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision…And he brought him outside and said, “Look toward heaven, and number the stars, if you are able to number them.”

Every night Abraham was able to look at the stars in the sky, see what the number of his offspring would be like, and trust God to fulfill His promise to him.  Ten years later at 100 years old and Sarah 90 years old, they had their son Isaac.  Abraham needed that vision to believe God for the impossible.
