Want a peek into WHY I do what I do?

After Twenty three years in the corporate world, I started my own consulting business because I felt unappreciated and unfulfilled.  Over those years I gave 150% of myself. I worked hard (literally working myself to the bone), earned my Masters Degree, and progressed in my career to a management position.  Despite all of that, I did not have much to show for it financially and I constantly felt like a failure.

I believed that I needed to earn more while making a positive and impactful difference satisfying the needs of clients who both need and want my experience and expertise, but without constantly striving, endlessly chasing deadlines, and feeling unsuccessful, and depleted.

As I started out “on my own”, Surprise! Surprise! Things did not seem to be changing.  I eventually found that I needed clarity around what success means to me, what needs I not only am able to, but also want to meet, and ultimately, whom I am meant to serve.  Most importantly, I needed to know how to serve others without destroying or depleting myself.  I really struggled to find that clarity, though.  In fact, it is still a work in progress.

For so long I had been on the proverbial ‘hamster wheel’, responding to the demands of family and work.  I was raising children and climbing the corporate ladder.  Inadvertently however, I was neglecting or at best ignoring my own real needs and true desires.  I discovered the hard way that it is important to be equally intentional and diligent about my own physical, mental and emotional wellbeing, personal development, financial freedom, and pursuit of my passions..

Through a Success Coach I realized that something I had been doing for my clients and organizations for years - visioning - was critical for my personal wellbeing and success.  Having a clear vision for my life, setting and writing down goals to realize that vision, and reviewing those goals daily, would give me purpose, focus and direction.

In Proverbs 29:18 we read that “where there is no vision, the people perish.”  No wonder I was depleting myself…..perishing.  It is like walking in an unknown terrain through thick fog, and heading straight to a precipice without knowing it.  I needed vision for my life.  I needed to start dreaming again. I needed to know my WHY!

I developed a vision for my life, and set goals around my health and wellbeing, relationships, finances, and business.  As I did this I also started reflecting on, and writing about my past and the many lessons I have learned which I could apply while charting my future.

Throughout my life and along this journey, I have benefitted from, and still am, the examples and support of many amazing, strong, gifted and selfless women.  Women I have learned from either directly, through their coaching, mentoring and teaching, or through their books, blogs, vlogs and podcasts.   Without these women, I would not be who and where I am today.

I have become acutely aware that too many women are living as I did - without a vision for their lives, unfulfilled and depleted from unreservedly pouring themselves out for everyone in their lives - without boundaries and appropriate self-care.

Many Christian women especially, believe, often subconsciously, that being a good Christian means serving others sacrificially.  Unfortunately, they translate that into lives of martyrdom and self-neglect.  While giving and serving others sometimes require sacrifice, God does not intend for us to sacrifice our health and wellbeing.  In fact he ‘commands’ us to love our neighbours as we love ourselves.

I have therefore concluded that in addition to serving 'select' corporate clients, It is my turn to serve Christian women who need to learn from my own life lessons, and who want to be a part of a community of women who are learning from each other, growing together, and supporting each other.

Now, through my blog, online courses and group coaching, I look forward to helping women who are living unfulfilled and self-destructive lives (like I was), find hope and fulfilment again.  I get to help them love themselves, dream again, find purpose and passion for their lives, and set themselves up to achieve their dreams.

THIS is why I do what I do.

This weekend GET OFF THE HAMSTER WHEEL.  Slow down.  In fact, STOP!!!

The Weekend Reset tip is:

Get your weekend chores done early.  Make some popcorn (in the microwave of course), put your feet up, with or without your family, and watch a Christmas movie on Lifetime, or your favourite type of movie on your favourite channel.  They are plentiful now that it is less than a week from December.  I am loving them!!!  Who knows, they may inspire you to start dreaming BIG.

Click here to learn about my free online Vision Board Workshop - ‘See it. Achieve it!’ which is coming up in December where you will learn how to DREAM BIG, and create your own vision board for a life of purpose, passion and fulfillment.
