SOMETHING HAD TO GIVE

You may or may not have been wondering why you have not been seeing my blogs. That’s because there have not been any new blogs over the past few weeks.

I did share with you in a previous blog - ‘It Never Stops!!!’ - just how much I was doing that had me feeling like a hamster on a wheel.

Well, I decided to get off the hamster wheel so that I would NOT suffer from burnout.

My life was too full for a moment there. I had to take stock and make some decisions regarding what I would do differently, pause, or stop altogether, in order to shed some of what had me over-extended and overwhelmed.

Something had to give!!!

How about you?

What are you carrying or holding on to out of obligation, guilt, people pleasing, or complacency? What is overwhelming and crippling you, holding you back, keeping you stuck in a bad place?

Well, YOU are the one who determines the direction and quality of your life.

A friend and colleague said to me recently that “a lot of the pressure we feel in life is self imposed”. I could not help but reflect on and accept this truth. We create our own personal pressure cooker.

Can you relate?

I decided to make a dramatic shift in what I allow to “pressure” me from here on.

That same week I paused writing the blog and dropped a few other activities. I rescheduled some, delegated some, and got help with others. I shared my frustration with my family and close friends and they encouraged me, held me accountable and literally reminded me of my commitment and when I was going against it.

This week, one of those persons - my Business Coach, firmly reminded me that I should DROP those activities that I am expending time and energy on but are NOT yielding a positive return or resulting in a profit.

It is not that these things are not important. It is that given that I have finite time and energy I have to prioritize and put my self-preservation and long term success and well being first.

Now, with the help of God, I focus on those things that are:

  1. in alignment with God’s will for my life

  2. specifically and intentionally taking me toward achieving my major life goals and

  3. yielding financial and eternal returns.

So by the ongoing shedding of the excess, here are the self-care activities I am making room for in my life:

  1. Quiet time listening to hear from God, studying and meditating on His Word

  2. Rest and relaxation

  3. Exercise, and yoga stretches

  4. Reading and Reflection

  5. Quality time with my family

  6. Home care and improvement

Your RESET TIP this week is to decide what you will DROP, what you will MAKE ROOM for, and HOW?

I would love to hear from you so please share in the comments so I can cheer you on!!!.
